if you want to know the type of man he is by rupi kaur
if
he can't help but degrade other women when they are not looking if
toxicity is central to his language he could hold you in his lap and be soft honey
that man could feed you sugar and douse you in rose water but that still could not make him sweet
-rupi kaur
I found this poem in college while dating someone who seemed kind but constantly belittled other women. But this poem made me realize that if he could degrade them so easily, I wasn’t an exception.
Kindness isn’t real if it’s selective. Affection doesn’t equal respect, and toxicity doesn’t disappear just because it’s coated in sweetness. Eventually, the truth comes out.
These words helped me see clearly and have stuck with me ever since. No amount of sugar can mask something rotten at its core.
Have you read Milk & Honey by Rupi Kaur? That book is filled with many amazing poems and is one of the first books that got me back into poetry during college.
